The focus lies on the relationship between a structured grid and creative elements of the programs that are represented at the downtown location, Graphic Design and Photography.
Wayfinding is an information system that helps to guide people through unfamiliar physical environments and enhance their understanding and experience of the space around them. To make this particular wayfinding system stand out, I focused on bright colours to create an attention-grabbing effect and at the same time relating it to both the Graphic Design and Photography Program.
To achieve this eye-catching effect while keeping the design program related, the layout and colour palette is based on Adobe Creative Cloud, the most used software in the Graphic Design as well as Photography program. The vibrant colours and geometric shapes make the individual wayfinding elements stand out and add to a continuous structure throughout the system. Incorporating various paint elements enhances the artistic and creative side of the Arch and Helen Brown Centre.
It's Effect on Social Good
This project contains two parts, both contributing to the social good and focusing on the benefit for students. Barrie has a great amount of students who make up a large part of the city and therefore should not be taken for granted. In 2017, Georgian College opened a new location in downtown Barrie to move the Graphic Design as well as Photography students closer to the industry and businesses in that field. However, the location looks very inconspicuousand wouldn’t attract anyone from the outside. Therefore, this new wayfinding system with its bright attention-grabbing colours and representing elements from both programs, contributes to making this location stand out and be seen. In invites people who are walking by to stop and read the signs, remember it and forward. This clear message of having fresh creative minds that are eager to learn and experience right around you, helps to spread the word and would promote the collaboration between students and businesses, helping the students to get their foot into the industry.
The second part, app design, is especially developed for students but might also be helpful for everyone visiting the campus. There are many apps accessible for students, helping them through their day to day life such as a bus app and individual food delivery services. This app was specifically created to enhance students experience and combine all necessary information in one app. This should also encouraging students to take part in events to interact with others, better their diet and, above all, reduce stress, which a majority suffers from.
