“Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more.  Everyone is entitled to these rights, without discrimination.”
For my poster I chose to visualize article 5, “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”, since it is one of the most dramatic and current articles that gets disregarded. My intention was to develop a poster which brings across a strong message through visuals and can be understood right away in any language, without any text needed. It also should bring across emotions and is visualized in a way that everyone can associate it with the article’s attributes.
To make this poster attention-grabbing in any language, I focused on strong visuals which everyone can associate with the article 5 attributes. Additional elements such as the fog and cracked background reinforce the meaning. The colour scheme contributes to bringing across emotions and encourages the viewer to think.
